There, the heads of the Pharisees defy him with allegations of lewdness; consequently, his preliminary outcomes with the pioneers sentencing him to his demise. Jesus is brought before Pontius Pilate, the regent of the Roman territory of Judaea, for his condemning. Pilate tunes in to the allegations leveled at Jesus by the Pharisees. Understanding that his own choice will make him become involved in a political clash, Pilate concedes to King Herod in choosing the matter of how to aggrieve Jesus. The film primarily covers the final twelve hours of Jesus' life, beginning with the Agony in the Garden of Gethsemane, the insomnia and grievance of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the brutal scourge and crucifixion, ending with a brief depiction of his resurrection.

Goofs

When Mary goes to clean the blood, as the camera pans over the bloody cobbles, the boom is reflected in the largest pool of blood.

Crazy Credits

The movie doesn't begin with credits, but only with a verse from the Bible: "He was wounded for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities; by His wounds we are healed." Isaiah 53; 700 B.C.

Alternate Versions

In January 2005, Mel Gibson announced that a slightly (5-6 minutes) shorter version would be released to theaters in March 2005 (just in time for Easter), under the title "The Passion Recut". The new version features no new scenes, but trimming of the most graphic scenes, particularly the scourging.
